Biography
Zhongyang Ling is a New York–based saxophonist, educator, and arts administrator whose work encompasses contemporary music, chamber music, orchestral performance, and community engagement. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Classical Saxophone Performance at Manhattan School of Music.
Ling is a member of Telos Consort, a New York City–based contemporary music ensemble dedicated to innovative programming and collaboration with living composers. Through his work with the ensemble, he regularly performs newly commissioned and contemporary repertoire while engaging in interdisciplinary artistic projects and collaborations.
As a performer, Ling has appeared at leading institutions and venues including The Juilliard School, Frost School of Music, Setnor School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn Museum, Church of the Holy Trinity, St. Paul & St. Andrew Church, The Blanc NY, and Scholes Street Studio. He has performed with ensembles including Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, Cantori New York, Camerata Notturna, Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra, and Telos Consort.
A dedicated advocate for contemporary music, Ling has premiered more than thirty works by living composers and collaborated with distinguished composers including Adolphus Hailstork, Reiko Fueting, and J. Mark Stambaugh. His artistic interests center on expanding the saxophone repertoire and fostering meaningful collaborations between performers, composers, and audiences.
Ling has participated in masterclasses with internationally recognized saxophonists including Timothy McAllister, Kenneth Tse, Otis Murphy, and Thomas Giles. He is the recipient of the 2019 Setnor School of Music Concerto Competition and the 2021 Spring Fuchs Chamber Music Competition.
In addition to his performing career, Ling is an active educator and serves as an instructor at 92nd Street Y. Beyond the classroom and concert stage, he is actively engaged in arts administration through leadership roles at Manhattan School of Music, supporting student engagement initiatives, community partnerships, and artistic programming throughout New York City.
